“RMA’s permanent home in Sydney is taking shape as an inspiring place for our team not only to exercise their craft, but importantly to share time together with a focus on wellbeing and collaboration.”
Rob Mills
Queen Street offers an ideal setting for RMA’s Sydney studio, surrounded by exceptional cafes, restaurants, boutique stores and art galleries. Here, RMA is transforming an existing shopfront into a cutting-edge workspace, setting a new benchmark for collaborative work.
A wellness centre, featuring an ice bath and sauna adjacent to a sunken courtyard garden, underscores the emphasis on wellbeing. The conference room doubles as a grand casual dining space, complemented by a fully-equipped kitchen where the team gathers for all-hands weekly lunches. The inclusion of two residences provides comfortable accommodations for interstate team members.
More akin to a luxury home than a commercial office space, signature RMA design elements are woven throughout, from the use of arches to the glass roof that bathes the space in natural light. The interiors reflect a refined yet relaxed aesthetic, creating an environment where collaboration, focus, and craftsmanship thrive — all hallmarks of one of Australia’s leading contemporary residential architecture practices.
“As project architect, I’ve led the DA process and the design development of the architecture and interiors. A fully resolved design with our consultants in the DA stage has allowed us to gain approval for a rare basement construction. This is a special project for us, as it will provide a home for the RMA team. Every room is special and has a different life to it. For example, the storefront gives a lively presence to Queen St; the basement meeting room is intimate and private; and the ground floor courtyard is the heart of the building, bringing light and air within.”

“This project will be the future home for our Sydney team. It has been an incredible process of creativity and collaboration. The clients are also Rob and Miki, who both have a very keen eye for colours and materiality. It’s been great to have them on both sides as the clients and as designers.”
